The Goal

Libervis.com is a project of building a community of technology enthusiasts passionate about liberty. In this community, we share our knowledge, understanding and ideas about freedom and technology while seeking ways in which we can cooperate on projects that use technology to further our freedom or promote such use of technology that preserves and furthers it.

No matter who you are, what your current profession is and what your other interests, ideas and beliefs are, if you have a distinct interest in technology and the love for freedom you are welcomed and invited to join.

The Topic

Technology today increasingly empowers its users, which raises many questions regarding, crucially, who is the one using it and how is it being used - and what is the consequence of this use to our individual freedom. This is the core topic of Libervis.com; technology, freedom and the the relationship between them.

Our focus is especially on disruptive technologies such as digital technology today and nano-technology in the future, and everything in between.

The Principle

The core principle of this project is non-discrimination, tolerance and free mindedness. We accept that different people hold freedom to have different meanings. We accept that different people have different experiences with technology and that different people become enthused about technology for different reasons. When we come together here, as unique different individuals that we are, and agree merely to share our own ideas and tolerate those of others, incredible things might be achieved. Some of us will recognize the beliefs and aims that are common and form initiatives to cooperate to those ends. Others will remain to simply keep exploring and learning and conversing, therefore practicing their thinking and evolving their own free mind.

In short. Never stop thinking. Never assume you know it all. Therefore always be open to what the other has to say. And then you can grow, and continue growing infinitely.

The History

Libervis.com was founded by Danijel Orsolic (libervisco) in August 2004 as a Free Software community portal with a goal of being a central forum for discussions on any Free Software and Open Source related topics limited to neither philosophical nor technical matters. It was reshaped and refocused multiple times since then, every time expanding its scope. At first it was expanded to include the topic of Free Culture (freely licensed works of culture), then it was expanded to cover all freedom issues regarding digital technology. Today it is about all technology and the effect which its use has on freedom, but with the most clearly defined purpose, forming a community of open minded technology enthusiasts who are passionate about freedom.

Some of our articles and projects were widely featured, such as our cooperative article on Free Software model applied to other areas of economy and FUDZilla (an Anti-Disinformation project now retired and archived). We've also cooperated with Mozdex.com (sold and changed spirit due to previous owner's personal issues taking too much time), an open search engine, by hosting their official blog for a while, discussing improvements to the engine, doing an interview with the founder and helping create current Mozdex.com design. You can read our Libervis 2005 summary here.

From many of the ideas discussed on Libervis.com, other projects such as Libervis Blogs (now discontinued, but still offering blog hosting per request for supporters and feeding the Libervis Planet) and Nuxified.org were born to create what is now called a Libervis Network, run with dedication to promoting freedom on the net and financially supported by advertising sponsorships (governed by the Libervis Advertising Policy).

If you would like to support us, besides simply participating on our site you are encouraged to spread the word. If you have a blog or a website consider linking to us.

If you are interested in content from the old Libervis.com (sections which we have discontinued in summer 2006) check out our legacy page. There you will find links to our famous FUDZilla, a gallery of some nice images, old preserved blogs etc.

Thank you
Danijel Orsolic
