Community

Community is a group of people brought to each other by the fact that they have something in common, which could be a common idea or an ideal, a common goal or objective, interest, method, element of their personalities etc. In this section we deal with all questions that could be asked about recognizing commonalities, forming communities around them and cooperating as a part of the community towards the shared interest of individual freedom with regards to the effect the use and development of technology may have on it. More on questions about Community.

gOS: A wake up call for Freedomware marketing

Think gOS. It might not be such a bad advice after all. It's been hyped up, but it sold out. And there may be lessons in its deployment and success for all of us Free Software and GNU/Linux advocates! ...

Where are the Free Software Women?

Today I found an excellent small website about the gender imbalance in Free software. There's been a lot about the topic on the linux/free software news sites too. Large parts of the free software community are rather hostile towards women, as unfortunately is usual in communities with a huge male majority. Which then prevents the community from becoming balanced because it will be unattractive to women. ...

Is .NET on GNU/Linux a Trojan Horse?

"Don't talk about Microsoft" is a meme some people would gladly adopt for it is true that many in the Free Software community often appear obsessed with what Microsoft does and how could that be a part of a plan to hurt Free Software and GNU/Linux specifically. However, there are certain facts that can't be validly denied; Microsoft has a reputation of being quite a devious "competitor", if we can even fairly attribute such a noble term to them. They simply shown that they will use every trick in the book, regardless even of legality or ethics, to stay on the top....

Against net neutrality

Considering that I am a voluntaryist (or for the newbies to the term; a left libertarian, or anarcho-capitalist) I am by default against any and all legislation. Still it's good to offer arguments behind why is a particular legislation bad and I've found an article which explains why would the net neutrality regulation be bad: The Great Firewall of Net Neutrality. ...

Service Nation?

Anyone heard of a project called Service Nation? Apparently they're trying to compell everyone in United States to do public service on September 27th 2008, in a nutshell. They, of course, speak of stuff like unity, being the change and all the other warm and fuzzy things. As it usually happens this, in fact quite heinous project, is being clothed into all of the good buzz words and slogans they can think of. ...

New look of Libervis site

Dear Libervisioners, The Libervis site is really nice! I've not been here for a long time and I've got nicely surprised. See you, Monserrat....

Soon enough, I could be arrested for writing this

Safe in our cages

To all of the ignorant idiots of the UK, and sadly, the western world at large, will you celebrate the onset of what you've been, through your idiocracy and ignorance building? Huh? Where are you now? When is anyone going to realize that Orwell's "1984" is not science fiction anymore? Read this and celebrate... or weep, weep hard for letting your ignorance, stupidity and self-betrayal mark your contribution to the reality you're living in: ...

breiPott: Free (as in Freedom) music party in Berlin

There is apparently a club in Berlin, called Breipott which plays only music offered under terms of one of the Creative Commons licenses and including only licenses which fit the definition of free as in freedom software (so basically, the four freedoms). They've just had a party on July 25 celebrating "the adaption of the latest CC-BY-SA (version 3.0) to the German jurisdiction". Cool stuff. ...

Free Talk Live interviews Cory Doctorow

A libertarian radio talk show and podcast, Free Talk Live featured an interview with Cory Doctorow, a science fiction writer, founder of BoingBoing and a fellow of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, mainly about his new book called Little Brother which one of the co-hosts of the show calls the most important book in his life. :) Enjoy....

Revolution March

Revolution March, organized for July 12 2008 in Washington DC is an event that may send shockwaves throughout the world, with the awoken voices of thousands saying that we are not giving up, that we will fight for our freedoms and against tyranical governments forming in what used to be a beacon of freedom, the USA, but unfortunately in Europe as well, as some fellow europeans know. :( ...
