Jono Bacon who is an Ubuntu Community Manager at Canonical announced a rather brilliant idea, to replace the "example-content" on Ubuntu live CDs and default installations with an Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase, a set of chosen content that is given under terms of Creative Commons Attribution - ShareAlike. This way they can both show what can be done with Ubuntu, as with the "example-content" folder and promote Free Culture.

Universal Music decided to experiment with the sale of DRM-free mp3's. Eexperiment will run from August to January and wil include Google, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.com, but not iTunes.

This looks like a nice project unfolding, a DVD of Free Culture materials. All the stuff on the DVD gives you at least the right to share.

I just came across a video that is just absolutely awesome. I am not sure how to describe it. It is a collage of images and text sending such a clear message about the nature of the web. It is very pro Free Culture. Using KeepVid.com I got a direct download link so you don't need flash to view it.

This video from the BBC World Service covers how FLOSS is helping the development of the second and third worlds. The quality of the programme isn't great, but it's nice to see where FLOSS has made inroads.

Here is a fun, but still enlightening way to learn about binary blobs and why is it bad to include them in a free operating system that is supposed to be completely open, like OpenBSD, but yes, like GNU/Linux too!
